Mickey Bowen

Michael “Mickey” Bowen was at one time a keen and accomplished Point to Point rider but his real passion has always been toward the training of racehorses. Working alongside his parents over the years has provided Mickey with a wealth of hands-on knowledge and he adopts the very same detailed and meticulous approach to training as his dad Peter and mum Karen did before him.

Mickey has passion in abundance, his expertise in readying a horse for a particular race is second to none, his time working for Willie Mullins at Closutton was also of great benefit to him. Mickey is results driven and shows incredible commitment and dedication to the sport he loves so much.

With the full support of his parents and the team at Yet y Rhug Mickey is destined to carry on the family legacy, sourcing and readying Racehorses at the top level is Mickeys forte, if you’re interested in ownership, be it as a sole owner or as part of a syndicate please see our “Horses For Sale” page or use the “Contact Us” facility should you require guidance or additional information.

Sean Bowen

Sean Bowen began his career with Pony Racing and since then his illustrious career has seen him reach the very pinnacle as a Jockey.

Sean was the youngest ever Champion Conditional Jockey and various accolades have come his way over the years, he is considered a master tactician, he can ride and win a race from any position and has a unique skill in getting the very best out of a horse.

The 2024-2025 season has seen Sean reach new heights, it has been an incredibly successful season for him having recently been awarded the Champion Jockey Title with 180 winners, 38 clear of his nearest rival. Sean has ridden numerous big race winners this past season, his more recent success being on Haiti Couleurs in the Irish Grand National for local trainer Rebecca Curtis.

James Bowen

James Bowen became the youngest winner of the Welsh Grand National back in 2018, he was also the youngest ever Champion Conditional Jockey taking the record from older brother Sean. James is closely associated with the all powerful Nicky Henderson stable but also rides for a number of top National Hunt trainers throughout the season. With a personal best of 85 winners in the 2024-2025 season James is proving himself to be a Jockey whose career is very much on the up, he has an abundance of ability, supreme strength and balance and a ferocious hunger to succeed. Many knowledgeable pundits see him as a future Champion Jockey in the making.

Shane Fenelon

Shane Fenelon hails from County Wicklow in Ireland and joined the yard as a Conditional Jockey back in 2024 after a casual meeting with Mickey at Shark Hanlons stables. Shanes background has seen him spend a breeding season (January – June) at Coolmore as well as riding for Shark Hanlon, in 2021 he rode Hewick to win his beginners chase on his first start over fences at Clonmel, he was also on board when he won the Durham National at Sedgefield that same year. Shane has proved himself to be a very capable, hard working Jockey, a real asset to the operation at Yet Y Rhug and is considered by all to have  a very bright future in front of him.
